He was smart with his money, and would try and teach us how to be smart. In the 70s he even was president of the credit union for a time. Everyone there knew him, even in his old age when he was loosing his mind the people who worked at the credit union would take the time to step aside and talk to him.
When my Grandpa grew old and stopped paying his bills my Dad put his name on the account, and when my Grandpa passed my Dad took over the account. Account 358
A few weeks ago the Credit Union contacted my dad, congradulating him on being a member for over 60 years! My dad explained to them that the accounts was his Dad's, how his dad was on the credit union board, how he was always good with his money. They loved the story and invited my Dad to come in and make a video of his story, along with pictures of my Grandpa.
Then they invited my dad to come down to the UVU basketball game to honor him and my Grandpa at half time.
We made it a family affair, and because all the cousins and grandkids were there they made us all go out onto the court at half time, they gave my mom and dad nice gold rings, and then gave us free concessions. It was hilarious, so fun to cheer on my Grandpa who continues to leave a legacy.
Sam said he wants to start a credit union so his posterity will have a reason to celebrate him, "But I won't do it for free so I can also leave my kids money!"
I love my Grandpa, and if it wasn't for my annoying cousin who adds his sarcastic comments to the credit union people the day would have been perfect.
And yes, this was the crazy grandpa I babysat for a time, it is weird that he is gone.
